SUMMARY:Lessons from a Life of Discipleship - with Asha Nayaswami
DESCRIPTION:“The characteristic features of Indian culture have long been a search for ultimate verities and the concomitant disciple-guru relationship.” — The first words of Paramhansa Yogananda’s perennially best-selling Autobiography of a Yogi \nWhile it’s widely understood that spiritual progress comes through discipleship to a true guru\, practical and accurate guidelines for how to actually live as a disciple are much less understood\, especially in this modern age. How can a life of discipleship fit with the many responsibilities and distractions of our typical modern lives? \nFortunately\, Swami Kriyananda lived over 64 years of his life as perhaps one of the best modern examples of what it really means to be a good disciple. By studying such a life\, we can go beyond all dogmas and theories about what ought to work well\, and learn from the principles and practices that were actually proven to work in Swamij’s exemplary life. All those who were close to him can attest that by the end of his life\, those practices had brought him to a state of uninterrupted bliss that he could not hide\, despite a life so productive that it’s challenging to even count all the many published books\, articles\, songs and movies that he wrote\, or the far greater number of classes and lectures he gave.  \n. \n\n \nFortunately also\, Asha Nayaswami has just finished writing an extensively detailed book about the life of Swami Kriyananda. She had known Swamiji for over 43 years\, and was commissioned to write this book by Swamiji himself\, shortly after she moved to the Ananda community. From then on\, Asha always carried a small notebook to write down the things Swamiji said\, as well as her observations and experiences with him. She saved every note\, letter\, email and document that she could get her hands on\, written by or referring to him. Swamiji included her in many events and meetings so that she’d be able to write about them later\, and took efforts to explain many details of his life to her\, answering countless questions from her for all those many years\, often in great detail. \nPlease join us for this very special weekend\, in which Asha will help us to draw practical lessons from this exemplary life\, guiding us towards becoming better disciples. While most of the time will be spent discussing and illustrating the principles that all disciples need to follow\, there will be ample time for individual questions\, to specifically address some of the difficulties or challenges of those present. \n. \nAbout the Instructor \nAsha has long been recognized as one of Ananda’s most experienced and gifted teachers. Her many talks offer clear explanations and answers to even the subtlest aspects of the spiritual life\, and are a lifeline for many followers all over the world. Brilliant\, wise\, and heart-felt\, she makes the ancient yogic teachings accessible with unusual clarity to the modern mind. Discover wisdom that can illuminate your life journey\, whatever your chosen path. Asha is Ananda’s global ambassador at Swami Kriyananda’s request\, and her gift for sharing the teachings is why. \n\nContact:  +91-9011069792 or +91-8007108691\nor write to retreat@anandaindia.org for questions or reservations \nFees:        ₹4000/- per person (includes shared accommodation & meals)\nVenue:     Ananda Meditation Retreat @ Watunde\, outside Pune\nLimited Accommodations Available – Book soon to reserve a place! \nDetailed Schedule \n \n\nAdditional things to keep in mind: \nThe above schedule is not written in stone. Our goal is to honor the needs and interests of our guests\, and if it becomes clear that we can serve you better by making adjustment(s) to the above schedule\, we’re very willing to do so.  \nWe’re now in monsoon season in a rural area where it rains very heavily at times\, so we recommend you bring an umbrella\, a rain jacket\, and footwear that will dry quickly if it gets wet. We also recommend you bring a flashlight in case of power outages at night.

SUMMARY:Spirituality and Nature Weekend - with Pranayamas\, Meditation and Ananda Yoga
DESCRIPTION:31 August – 1 September 2019 \nwith Yogini Parizad Mazda and Acharya Dharana \n“The trivial preoccupations of daily life are not enough for man; wisdom too is a native hunger.”\n— Paramhansa Yogananda \nIf you’re not satisfied with the “trivial preoccupations” in your daily life\, or are hungering for wisdom\, a sense of meaning or deeper purpose in life\, or just a short break\, we invite you to come for a short but relaxing weekend away from the noise and stress of city life. \nThis 28 hour program\, from Saturday morning through Sunday lunch\, will include: \n\n\nRelaxation in a serene\, beautiful and natural environment. \n\n\nGuided pranayama\, yoga and meditation sessions to help you recharge your mind\, body and spirit. \n\n\nWeather permitting\, a visit to one or more of the nearby scenic attractions\, which include an adjoining mountain and many nearby waterfalls and streams. \n\n\nAll mankind has an inner yearning for meaning\, fulfillment\, and above all happiness\, yet many of us are unable to find these qualities in our daily lives. The various scriptures of the world tell us that true and lasting happiness can only be found in the Divine\, yet many of us are so busy honouring our commitments that we have no time left to take steps in this direction. And when we finally manage make time to pursue these things\, we find that we are not sure how to proceed\, or we are not advanced enough to deeply connect with the Divine. \nThis short weekend is designed to help and guide you in taking these steps\, with time for both\, inward and outward explorations. The inward steps are based on the guidance and techniques of the great Master of Yoga\, Paramhansa Yogananda\, author of the renowned book Autobiography of a Yogi. These teachings will help you connect to the Divine joy and peace within you. The outward steps will help you to deepen your awareness and enhance your enjoyment of the natural world\, all around us. \nThis weekend will also include a class in how to meditate\, and guided sessions in pranayamas and Ananda Yoga\, to further help you relax and connect with the Divine. \n. \nAbout the Pranayama Techniques \nTime and again\, we have been told ‘breathe-in’ and ‘breath-out’\, ‘inhale’ and ‘exhale’ are the sure shot ways to let go off immediate stress\, anger\, depression\, or any such negativity impacting the functioning of our mind\, body\, spirit. The technique of controlling our breath\, Pranayama\, is an age-old method for altering our breathing movements intentionally to yield specific results. Meaning “breath control” or “extension of the prana”\, pranayama is an integral part of the yogic discipline that originated in India a few thousand years ago. \nCome learn this ancient techniques of Pranayama and its correlation with other aspects of Meditation\, Yoga and Spirituality. \n. \nWhat is Meditation? \nMeditation is a technique for personal growth that has been practiced for thousands of years around the world with repeatable results. \nThere is no aspect of your life that cannot be improved by meditation\, whether it be in business\, relationships\, health\, or developing any personal quality\, such as willpower. \nThe highest purpose of meditation\, however\, is to discover your Highest Self. \nAnanda Meditation Retreat teaches the meditation techniques taught by Paramhansa Yogananda. Meditation is a state of intense awareness achieved by stilling and concentrating the thoughts. It is a journey to the center of our own being\, a process so perfectly natural that we don’t have to learn how to meditate. Rather\, we have to unlearn those habits and attitudes that keep us from experiencing our natural state of expanded awareness. \nWe offer regular How to Meditate workshops\, and daily morning or evening group meditations at our retreat center. Group meditations are especially helpful for those who are new to meditation\, as the energy of the group supports and encourages them in their efforts. \n. \nWhat is Ananda Yoga? \nAnanda Yoga brings yoga back to its original spiritual essence. \nAbove all\, it seeks to raise your level of consciousness by reinforcing the natural effects the yoga postures. With this\, it is also designed to harmonize your body\, mind\, and soul. \nAnanda Yoga includes: \n\nAsana (yoga postures)\nPranayama (breathing and energy-control techniques)\nYogic meditation techniques\nApplied yoga philosophy\n\n. \nWhat is the Practice Like? \nYoga posture practice in Ananda Yoga® is gentle for beginning students\, becoming more challenging with experience. It is an inwardly directed practice\, and is never aggressive or aerobic. \nThe primary emphases are: \n\nAsana (yoga postures)\nSafety and correct alignment\nBeing relaxed at all times\, even during the midst of effort\nWorking directly with the body’s subtle energy via the yoga postures\nUsing the postures to raise your consciousness\nAdapting each yoga posture to fit the needs and abilities of the practitioner rather than trying to force the practitioner into some “ideal” position\n\n. \nWhat Makes Ananda Yoga Unique? \nEnergization Exercises \nThe Energization Exercises are a series of 39 special energy-control techniques that Yogananda developed in order to help the practitioner increase\, focus\, and control the life-force. \nAffirmations \nEach yoga posture is paired with its own affirmation\, which one practices silently while in the posture. The affirmation is designed to reinforce the posture’s natural effect on one’s state of consciousness\, bringing the mind actively and directly into one’s practice. \nThis retreat is open and welcoming to all regardless of age\, beliefs or religious background. \n. \nAbout the Instructors \n\n \nParizad is a certified and experienced Ananda Yoga and Meditation Teacher.
