SUMMARY:New Year Yoga Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The long history and transforming power of yoga\, a physical activity that promotes spiritual enlightenment and deepens meditation. Yoga was developed in India thousands of years ago with the intention of bringing the mind\, body\, and spirit together and assisting people in discovering a more profound awareness of both the self and the cosmos. With time\, yoga became well-known throughout the world\, growing from its traditional spiritual origins to become a popular form of exercise and relaxation. \nAsanas\, or yoga poses\, are inspired by spiritual ideas and the natural environment. Every posture has a deeper meaning that reflects the search for inner harmony and the interdependence of all living things. Yoga practitioners develop emotional fortitude\, cerebral clarity\, and spiritual awareness in addition to improving their physical well-being. \nParticipants in this workshop will practice and learn a simple yoga routine that can be practiced regularly at home. The routine combines physical postures (asanas) with controlled breathing (pranayama) and meditation. The physical benefits of this routine include enhanced flexibility\, strength\, balance\, reduced stress and greater relaxation. Mentally\, the routine will promote mindfulness\, reduce anxiety\, and improve mental clarity. Regular practice of this routine can lead to improved overall well-being and a harmonious mind-body connection. \nEach day of the workshop will include short but invigorating yoga asana sessions\, pranayama and traditional yogic cleansing processes. The workshop will be guided by yogi Praveen Mishra\, trained Hatha Yoga teacher. \nThe workshop is open to all ages and does not require any fitness level or prior experience with yoga. Participants should wear loose-fitting clothes and bring a handkerchief. Participants are welcome to bring their own yoga mats & bricks\, if they have them. Shoes suitable for trekking would be helpful. \nFees & Accommodations:\nFor three days: Rs 9\,000.  Participants can come for any of the 12 days (minimum participation 3 days) \nOne week (7 days): Rs 20\,000. \nFull workshop Rs 30\,000. From 10 am on 20th December until after lunch on 1st January. \nAll rates include 3 meals per day and all applicable discourses & sessions. Accommodations are included in a fully furnished\, shared room. \nNote 1: Every asana session will include a short meditation and mantra chanting before and after the asanas\nNote 2: There will be one adventure trek during the week\, timing to be determined based on weather conditions.\nNote 3: Diet will include simple & sattvic meals\, emphasizing local dishes from Maharashtra.

SUMMARY:All Day Christmas Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, 22 December\, 2024 \n“Christ is only suggested in social Christmas festivities\, but He is seen and felt as an everlasting\, ever-joyous fact in the cradle of divine ecstasy. Make the unknown Christ known within yourself by seeing Him born a second time as the ever-new\, ever increasing joy of your daily deep meditation.”  – Paramhansa Yogananda \nThe All-Day Christmas meditation is a tradition Paramhansa Yogananda started in 1931 as a time to worship God as expressed through the life of Jesus Christ\, and to expand our awareness of the Christ Consciousness in our own souls. \nThe meditation will be conducted in the Kriya Yoga Mandir\, within the serene environment of Ananda Kriya Yogashram. \nEvent Details:\nAs always\, the Christmas meditation is completely free of charge. However please let us know by WhatsApp on 9604900999 incase you are attending so we can plan better for the event. \n \n\nTips for the meditation:\nCome on time to participate in the energization exercises and to be in place for meditation.\nEight hours might seem like a long time\, but if you sit still right away you can go deep into meditation\, and beyond time and space. Almost universally the time passes far too quickly. Periods of chanting can help you dive more deeply within. \nBe inward\, move as little as possible\, even during the chanting periods. Let the chanting take you more deeply within; don’t treat them as “breaks” but rather as a continuation of your experience of Christ within. \nChairs are provided or bring your own meditation gear for floor sitting including a shawl or sweater. (Malas\, aum boards\, and earplugs if you use them.) \nCome for as much as you are able\, leave when you need to. If you can arrange to leave at a break or chanting/reading\, that would avoid disturbing anyone around you. \nDress in comfortable QUIET clothing—please no clothing that rustles loudly (nylon\, etc.). Woolen layers such as shawls and sweaters are recommended to keep you WARM enough\, as it can get quite cold here at this time of year\, and the body gets colder when you’re sitting still. \nKeep your mobile phones off or on silent so that we do not disturb other meditators.\nWater\, tea\, fruit and light snacks will be available at the 1:00 pm break time\, and an optional light lunch will be available in the kitchen.

SUMMARY:An Experiential Introduction to Kriya Yoga
DESCRIPTION:This experiential workshop is for anyone who’d like to learn more about Kriya Yoga\, the core practice mentioned often in the “Autobiography of a Yogi\,” the well-known spiritual bestseller by Paramhansa Yogananda. No prior knowledge of yoga or meditation is required\, only a sincere interest. \nNote that this is a very rare\, 3.5 day version of a workshop which we usually squeeze into a 2.5 day weekend. This additional day will allow us to include additional content and depth we’re rarely able to include\, and it will likely be a long time before upcoming holidays allow us to offer this extended version again. So this particular workshop will be an especially unique opportunity! \nLearn to Meditate \nOne key aspect of this weekend will be learning and practicing the same powerful technique of meditation that Paramhansa Yogananda selected and shared in the West. Meditation is one of the most natural yet profoundly rewarding of all human activities. Meditation not only reduces stress and improves physical and emotional well-being\, it can help you be more focused\, productive and calm regardless of outer conditions. Meditation can help you directly experience the divine realities within — the peace\, joy and divine love that are your true nature. While its original and highest purpose is to help us awaken our spiritual nature\, the benefits to body and mind are well established by medical research. \nWhat is Kriya Yoga? \nKriya Yoga is an advanced and more powerful technique of meditation\, which cannot be adequately conveyed in one weekend. This weekend is intended to give participants a “taste” of what Kriya is all about\, through meditation\, yoga\, pranayama and energy-awareness techniques\, plus discussions and questions and answers about Kriya Yoga. Much of what you’ll learn in this weekend will also serve to prepare and qualify you for eventually receiving initiation into Kriya Yoga. \nHere are a few quotes describing Kriya Yoga from the Autobiography of a Yogi\, primarily from Chapter 26\, The Science of Kriya Yoga: \nKriya is an ancient science. Lahiri Mahasaya received it from his guru\, Babaji\, who rediscovered and clarified the technique after it had been lost in the Dark Ages. “The Kriya Yoga which I am giving to the world through you in this nineteenth century\,” Babaji told Lahiri Mahasaya\, “is a revival of the same science which Krishna gave\, millenniums ago\, to Arjuna\, and which was later known to Patanjali\, and to Christ\, St. John\, St. Paul\, and other disciples.” \n“Kriya Yoga is an instrument through which human evolution can be quickened. The ancient yogis discovered that the secret of cosmic consciousness is intimately linked with breath mastery. This is India’s unique and deathless contribution to the world’s treasury of knowledge.”\n— Sri Yukteswar \n“I myself consider Kriya the most effective device of salvation through self-effort ever to be evolved in man’s search for the infinite.”\n— Swami Kebalananda \n\nTakeaways from the workshop: \n\nLearn to meditate with the powerful technique Yogananda chose to take to the West\nA clear foundation towards beginning or deepening your personal sadhana practices\nA clear roadmap of the additional steps required to qualify for Kriya Yoga initiation\nA book\, “Lessons in Meditation\,” plus online videos\, to help you establish and maintain a regular sadhana practice at home\nOngoing support through WhatsApp for any questions that may come up in the future\n\nWhether you’re interested in managing stress\, finding peace\, increasing your concentration or exploring spiritual realms\, you’ll benefit from this workshop. You’ll learn to relax your body\, calm and concentrate your mind\, awaken intuition and experience greater joy\, mental clarity and creativity in your daily life. \nAdditional takeaways on Meditation \n\nThe yogic meaning of meditation\nHow\, when & how long to meditate\nThe value of prayer\, chanting\, and devotion in deepening your meditations\nWhy people slouch\, how to easily keep the spine straight\, and why that’s important\nWays of avoiding your legs going numb\n\nTakeaways from Two Supporting Techniques: Energization & Ananda Yoga \n\nHow to apply will-power\, energy and magnetism to recharge your body with life-force\, to combat fatigue and deepen your meditations\nA clear and practical understanding of the way these inter-related principles work together\nHow these same principles apply to pranic healing methods\, group meditations\, and more.\nHow these same principles can be applied to bring greater success in any field of endeavor\nHow to use asanas (physical postures) to help you attain higher awareness\, making yoga routines a “work-in” rather than a “work-out”\nHow to use mental affirmations to deepen your awareness of the unique vibrational benefits of each asana\, to gain more from them while deepening the integration between body\, mind and spirit\nLearn asanas to center your awareness in the spine\, internalize your awareness\, and bring energy to the brain\, deepening your meditations\nLearn pranayamas to help you reduce stress\, lower blood pressure and prepare for meditation\nLearn routines that you can practice at home\, to help you deepen your meditations\n\nTestimonials from Past Workshop Participants: \n“I wanted to express my deepest gratitude for the profound impact your spiritual training has had on my life. Your guidance\, wisdom\, and unwavering support have allowed me to deepen my connection to myself and the divine\, leading to a greater sense of peace and purpose.\nThank you for the countless lessons\, the challenging practices\, and the unwavering belief you placed in my potential to grow spiritually.\nYour teachings have become a guiding light in my journey\, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to learn from you.” — M.N.\, Mumbai \n“I spent a weekend here attending an introductory meditation course. It was a profound experience\, not only the very important techniques that were offered\, but also the why\, making reference to the Bhagavad Gita and the voice of Paramahansa Yogananda and Swamiji Kriyananda. But this is only part of what we received\, because in addition to this we were able to receive calm joy and blessings in a fantastic place\, immersed in nature. It was just one weekend\, but so intense and full of good vibes. Go\, experience it firsthand\, because\nwords are not enough!” – S.L.\, Italy \n“I wanted to express my deepest gratitude for your invaluable guidance and support in helping me connect with my inner self and navigate the path of spirituality. Your wisdom\, patience\, and teachings have profoundly impacted my life\, allowing me to explore and understand aspects of myself I hadn’t before.\nYour insights have brought clarity and peace\, and I’m profoundly thankful for the positive changes they’ve instilled in me.\nThank you for being an exceptional guide along this spiritual path.” – R.J.\, Hyderabad \nAbout the instructors: \nAcharya Dharana served in Ananda Palo Alto (USA)\, Ananda Assisi (Italy) and Ananda India\, before becoming the primary Acharya here at the Ananda Meditation Retreat in 2015.
