Diwali commemorates the return of Lord Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana, from his 14-year-long exile and vanquishing the demon-king Ravana. In joyous celebration of the return of their king, the people of Ayodhya, the Capital of Rama, illuminated the kingdom with earthen diyas and by bursting firecrackers.

About Nayaswami Jyotish and Devi:

Nayaswamis Jyotish and Devi have served together as spiritual directors of Ananda Sangha Worldwide since 1984. With the passing of Swami Kriyananda, the founder of Ananda, in 2013, Jyotish and Devi are continuing to carry on the great work that he started. Nayaswami Jyotish was named by Kriyananda as his spiritual successor after decades of helping him build Ananda’s work around the world. He has lectured throughout the world and has helped establish Ananda’s work in America, Italy and India. He has also written several books. Nayaswami Devi first met Swami Kriyananda in 1969 and dedicated her life to the spiritual path. She and Jyotish were married in 1975, and have spent their life together serving Kriyananda and their guru, Paramhansa Yogananda, through teaching, writing and outreach throughout the world.

A Previous Diwali message from Nayaswami Jyotish and Devi:

As we celebrate the return of light in the world, let us also strive to live more in the divine inner light shining within.
When God created our souls, He planted an individual spark of His consciousness in each one of us. The highest purpose of life is to kindle that spark into a flame of divine love that burns away all sense of egoic separation from Him.
So in our Diwali celebrations, let us keep the light of God and Guru shining brightly in our hearts and minds, and let us share that light with everyone. As our Guru, Paramhansa Yoganandaji, said, “Whenever a true devotee thinks of me in the silent depths of his souls, he will know that I am near.”
